April 05 2023,
Fans of wagons will soon have some good news. There are rumours that the next-gen BMW M5 would be available as a 735hp PHEV and a long roof out back. In addition to the M5 launching as a sedan in 2024, it may also include a Touring variant.
What Does The 5 Series Currently Offer?
Currently, the 5 Series includes a PHEV and 48V mild hybrid system. The M550i xDrive sedan features a 4.4L twin turbo V8 engine delivering 523 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. The top trim is the M5 Competition delivering 617 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque.
What’s New?
The new M5 will have the same PHEV powertrain as the XM SUV. The XM SUV features a gas-electric engine delivering 644 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. Rumour also has it that the new M5 will have a top speed of around 140 km/h and feature an RWD.
While all manufacturers have abandoned wagons in favour of SUVs, Mercedes-Benz and Audi continue to offer wagons. This leads people to believe that although these are rumours at the moment, they may turn out to be true.
